Almost Christmas

Banning,California.December 23,2009.The weather is good at Fourteen degrees Celcius in
temperature. Not too much chill as a year before 2009.No snow but a little windy.

Most of the houses in our neighborhood have glittering decors and twinkling lights
on their porches and windows.

These are all manifestation of our joy and love for the most celebrated birthday
in the Christian world today.

The child Jesus in a manger. The prince of peace and goodwill.

Every person is entitled to be pure and kind to each and every one this season.
When gifts and greetings of goodwill are expected to be given and to be received unconditionally especially to our family members and the closest of friends,
relatives and even to strangers seeking goodwill and care.

In my home country in the Philippines,Christmas is celebrated the longest period
in the whole world. We started to display our native Lanterns even before November
each year and discard them after January 6 after the New year.

To each and every one "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

Thanksgiving Giveaway

Banning,California. As early as 9:00 this morning,me and a friend were at the RedBarn
within the Morongo Reservations Area, along Freeway 10 East.

The occassion, being the designated day for distribution of nearly 20 lbs. each Turkey.
Free for every household within the Reservations needing to partake of the
traditional undertaking by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

This is their way of continuing to share the spirit of the original Thanksgiving.

According to them more than three centuries ago,Indians brought food to share with
the early settlers for the first Thanksgiving, which the Morongo Indians honor that
original spirit.Their flyer read;
"
They know and understand what difficult times are all about. And like us,
their struggles are far from over.Because of gaming, things are becoming better on
their reservation and they wanted to extend their own Indian traditions of sharing.

They hope the food provided here will nourish our spirit as well as our body.

they further said,at a time when there are so many divisions and misunderstandings
among cultures, they need to seek ways to bring all people together.Only by working
together can we make real progress.

Please accept our wishes and prayers for peace and goodwill this Thanksgiving.
We ask the Creator's blessing on all of us today.

From our Indian family to you."(unquote)

What a blissful Thanksgiving.

To the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, thank you for the spirit of sharing.

Laiban Dam

November 2,2009.Banning California.Just recently I learned about a call from biologists and concerned Non-Governmental Organizations in the Philippines.
Spearheaded by Haribon Foundation to go against a proposal for the construction of
Laiban Dam.A Billion dollar water project.
Supposedly to augment the potable water supply of Metro Manila residents in exchange
for a probable degradation of the ecosystem within the Southern Sierra Madre Mountain Ranges in the Luzon Island.

Undermining the call of scientists and experts in the field would eventually mean
a disastrous undertaking in transit.

Let the people speak for themselves rather than a few politicians with vested
interest do the task.

Me for one would like to extend my sympathy in advance to possible victims in this
man made calamity in the near future.Till then bye.

Lesson to learn

September 27,2009.Banning California. As we are experiencing a post summer season in
the United States, people in the Philippines, specifically in Metropolitan Manila
area are experiencing a record breaking volume of flooding water brought about
by a recently concluded typhoon codenamed Ondoy.

Since Manila is a low lying plain, flooding is always expected. Much more when a
high tide comes by and coincided with heavy monsoon and typhoon.

Manila is highly vulnerable to flood disaster, aggravated with an uncontrolled
waterways and continued clogging of canals, rivers brought about by unwarranted
dumping of solid wastes into them.

As the city becomes populous due to progress or migration, let us always keep in our
minds that a corresponding destruction in our environment occurs. The more wastes
we dump ,the more clogging and flooding we must expect. This happens when we are
disregarding a proper way to dispose off our garbage and other related wastes.

Comes the rain, monsoon and typhoon then we reap our share of burden. For the victims
let me extend my sympathy and condolences.

An Exodus

Banning,California. In spite of a blistering heat of the sun, Calbayognons living in the United States are enthusiastic and happy in attending the Saturday novenas
honoring the coming 317Th Fiesta celebration for the Nativity of the Blessed
Virgin Mary in our home country in the Philippines.Come September 8,2009.

Calbayog.A first class city in Western Samar. Samar, being the third largest island
in the Philippines.Currently has an estimated population of 164,000.

Calbayog City for us is truly a cherished old city where we can find our roots.A place where our childhood friends are.A Serene place for people who wanted peace.By just swimming in the nearby beaches is good enough to release the stress, thus curing a bit of weariness brought about by our daily struggle to earn money for a family to live.
Through the years, I still clearly recall when we were in grade school. When we were excited then to wake up early in anticipation for a Diana. It is a centuries old
practice in our city to employ ambulant musician to play nostalgic music at daybreak for the purpose of waking up the residents to usher in the series of activities for the grand day ahead.Till then bye

Thunder,Lightning and Hail

It was noontime of June 3,2009. We were taking our lunch, when a loud roar of Thunder
was heard in our neighborhood, along Wilson cor Kings well St.,Banning,Ca.
Suddenly,a ball of fire was seen eating up the dried Palm leaves near an apartment
only a block away from us.

It was my first time to see such a powerful lightning that almost gutted
a towering Palm tree into dust and only for a couple of minutes.

Natural occurrence that is unpredictable. It must be a good lesson to all that when
mother nature strikes, all are vulnerable to become victims.

Hailstorm in June is not a common occurrence but on that same day ,it happened.
Erratic weather is indeed a consequence of a much publicized issue of Global warming.
How can we help to avoid it? How can each help to patch up the depleted Ozone layer?
Maybe its good for us to listen and follow the advice
of experts to save the environment.
Let us continue our good practice of segregating our wastes into recyclable and non-
recyclable.Industrial gases emission need to be further regulated.

Till then,bye.

In Contrast

In Banning California it is still winter. Just this morning when I opened the door ,
I noticed a thin layer of snow on the roof and on top of our grill cover standing near the patio.

In contrast to the anticipated summer heat in my home country in the Philippines.

Now probably a lot of people are converging in the countryside beaches to ease the
heat.Summer is the best time to visit the country, because one could see the different island provinces without the risk of having to travel on a rainy and muddy streets.

Besides, the months within the summer period are the same months when you can find
fiesta celebrations all over the archipelago.

Cultural presentations are abundant and foods are free to partake as one attends the fiesta. One at a time from a City to another municipality.Just make sure to know the exact dates.

Boracay in the Visayas region is among the most visited beaches in the country, and
for the nature lovers El Nido in Palawan is the most ideal. Not to mention Cebu
the queen city in the south,is very convenient.

Come aboard and see it.
Till your next visit. Thank you.
